The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have arrested at least 14 suspected terrorist informants and collaborators during coordinated military operations across the North-East and other theatres of operation between May 28 and June 4, 2026, as troops intensified efforts to dismantle insurgent support networks nationwide.
The arrests, disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, formed part of a broader campaign that also led to the neutralisation of terrorists, rescue of kidnap victims, recovery of weapons, and disruption of criminal activities across several states.
According to the Defence Headquarters, troops of Operation Hadin Kai recorded multiple arrests of suspected terrorist collaborators and informants in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Adamawa states.
Among those arrested was a suspected kidnapper in Biu, Borno State, who confessed to receiving two AK-47 rifles from terrorists neutralised in Buratai Forest earlier this year and using them for kidnapping, cattle rustling and other criminal activities across parts of Borno, Gombe and Adamawa states.
Troops also apprehended a suspected terrorist collaborator identified as Alhaji Kurna in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, while additional suspected informants and collaborators were arrested along the Buni Yadi–Buni Gari Road in Yobe State and during a drone-guided operation in Kukawa LGA of Borno State.
Between June 1 and June 4, troops arrested four suspected terrorist informants along the Maiduguri–Bauchi Road in Darazo LGA of Bauchi State, as well as two more suspected informants in Goniri, Gujba LGA of Yobe State.
The military also reported the arrest of two suspected terrorist elements in Garkida, Adamawa State, with one confessing involvement in attacks on communities in Askira Uba LGA of Borno State and another admitting participation in an attack in Tellabala, Adamawa State.
Beyond the North-East, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma arrested a suspected terrorist informant in Makarfi LGA of Kaduna State and a notorious terrorist kingpin hiding among traders at Shinkafi market in Zamfara State.
In Niger State, troops of Operation Savannah Shield apprehended a known terrorist informant, Ali Hamidu, who was allegedly involved in a previous attack on Kwankesso community and had evaded security forces across multiple locations.
The operations also recorded the surrender of several escapees from terrorist enclaves in the Mandara Mountains and Gwoza axis of Borno State, including women and children who cited sustained military pressure and worsening conditions within insurgent camps.
Maj.-Gen. Onoja said troops across all operational theatres maintained aggressive pressure on insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, gunrunners and other criminal elements, leading to the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives and motorcycles used for criminal activities.
He added that the Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, remained committed to rescuing all persons in captivity and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
The Defence Headquarters urged members of the public to continue supporting security efforts by reporting suspicious activities through security agencies or the military’s toll-free emergency line, 193.
