General Mamadi Doumbouya, President of the Transition in Guinea, on March 28, 2025 signed a decree granting presidential pardon to former head of the junta, Captain Moussa Dadis Camara, for health reasons.
This announcement, made on national television, states that the decision was made at the proposal of the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, who is in charge of its implementation.
Moussa Dadis Camara was sentenced on July 31, 2024 to 20 years in prison for crimes against humanity in connection with the September 28, 2009 massacre at Conakry Stadium.
In this tragic event, at least 156 people lost their lives and hundreds more were injured while a crackdown on an opposition rally.
The trial, which has been going on over nearly two years, has also resulted in the conviction of several other military officials for their involvement in these events.
The grace granted to Moussa Dadis Camara is already provoking many reactions in public opinion and human rights organizations, who are closely following the consequences of this exceptional measure.
